On Tuesday May 3rd, we are presenting the project-group exhibition, "The Collection", by Greek artists Stelios Karamanolis and Toula Ploumis.
XYZ Outlet will be open to the public for one hour only, as always, between 20:00 and 21:00.
About the project
"The Collection", is both a project and a group exhibition showcasing paintings, photographs, engravings and sculptures by twenty one artists. Since 2002 Stelios Karamanolis and Toula Ploumis decided to place works they had acquired through exchanges with fellow artists or as gifts under the umbrella of a collection –one still growing.
On the occasion of the XYZ Outlet show, where the works are presented together for the first time in the context of an exhibition and as a collection, Karamanolis and Ploumis morph from artists to art collectors to curators. At the same time, the artworks are defined by their collectible value and their status as property, as an exchangeable object and as a gift – as a commodity, momentarily transforming XYZ Outlet into a museum.
"The Collection" and its exhibition aim towards expanding the boundaries of concepts and roles within the world of contemporary art, and to comment on the work of art as an object of value, through a gesture of grandeur.

About the 'Collectors'
Stelios Karamanolis was born in 1977 in Athens where he lives and works. He has been a student of the Fine Art School of Athens since 2004 studying mainly engraving under Michalis Arfaras and sculputure in the workshop of Nikos Tranos. In 2006 he studied at the University of Hildesheim in Germany. He has taken part in various group shows including: Rooms 2010, Kapatos, Oraioi San Amerikanoi , Kafeneon 2008, Pedio Drasis Kodra ,2005. At the same time he has been working with Toula Ploumis on collaborative projects.

Toula Ploumi was born in Heraklion, Crete in 1980 and lives and works in Athens. She studied at the Fine Art School of Athens between 2003-2008 under Marios Spiliopoulos and Rena Papaspyrou and at the University of Hildesheim in Germany between 2006-2007. She has taken part in various group shows mainly in Athens and Thessaloniki in galleries and project spaces and she also works with Stelios Karamanolis on collaborative projects. http://tulaplumi.blogspot.com/
